The Ian Coury Trio presents a virtuosic concert that celebrates the richness of Brazilian music in dialogue with contemporary jazz. Led by award winning Brazilian mandolinist Ian Coury, a virtuoso of the 10 string mandolin and a Masters graduate from Berklee College of Music, this instrumental trio features Ians original compositions as well as classics of the Brazilian repertoire re-imagined by three world-class musicians. Since he was a nationally recognized prodigy in his native Brazil, Ian has been expanding the possibilities of the 10 string mandolin by exploring new sounds, improvisation, and musical freedom. His work seeks to push beyond the traditional boundaries of the instrument, building bridges between the traditions of Brazilian music and the open, contemporary language of jazz.
