Join us for an evening with1950's Decca Recording Artist Mimi Roman, accompanied by The Brooklyn Cowgirls. The band starts the evening off with a set featuring songs by Mimi's contemporaries, including Gene Autry, Elvis Presley, Patsy Cline, The Everly Brothers. Mimi then joins the Cowgirls onstage to sing her hits. The live music will be preceded by a short documentary of Mimi's Stories and Memories and a curated exhibit of stage costumes, instruments and photos as a visual anchor of her musical legacy. Born Miriam Rothman in 1934 and raised in Brooklyn, Mimi Roman fell for country music by catching late-night clear-channel radio broadcasts from Del Rio and Nashville. A horse-riding prize at the Madison Square Garden rodeo led to a singing spot beside Gene Autry, an audition for Arthur Godfrey's Talent Scouts, and eventually a Decca Records contract cut in Nashville with session players like Chet Atkins and producer Owen Bradley. Billed as the Brooklyn Cowgirl, she toured and recorded through the mid-1950s and early '60s; as Mimi Roman in country, and as Kitty Ford on the pop side; before stepping back from the industry to build a life closer to home. Decades later, her recordings found a second life among rockabilly collectors, leading to the 2022 archival releases First of the Brooklyn Cowgirls and Pussycat on Sundazed Music.
